The Read-a-thon is one of Santa Rita's newest traditions that promotes a love for reading and raises money for the PTA. Students track their reading minutes over a one-week time frame and collect pledges from friends and family.
Funds collected from the Read-a-thon are used for classroom technology and furniture upgrades. We would love to see at least 80% of the students building their daily reading habit by participating in this event. Our goal is to raise at least $57,000 for classroom technology through this event.
Read-a-thon packets with instructions and pledge sheets will be handed out to the students at the start of the event, but here are some tips to help make the event a success:
You can support your children's participation by helping them:
- Set a reading goal
- Gather pledges from family, friends, and neighbors
- Track their daily reading and total progress
- Collect pledges and return everything to their classrooms
A few final details:
- All forms of reading are allowed: books, newspapers, magazines, Raz Kids, etc. (For students who aren’t reading independently, even word recognition or listening to a story can count!)
- Sponsors can pledge either a flat amount or per minute spent reading.
- Please ensure that students submit their pledge sheets and reading logs along with their collected donations, preferably in this envelope with their name on it.
Tips for collecting pledges:
- Reader tracking can be done online via Google form or using a paper tracking sheet available at the school office
- Think about asking grandparents, aunts & uncles, family friends, and neighbors.
- Use corporate matching to increase the donation
